According to Dr. Wesley Burks, a allergy expert at Duke University, multiple studies are being conducted regarding peanut allergies.

One possible approach is using engineered peanut proteins as immunotherpy Genetic engineering may also produce allergen-free peanuts, states Dr. Burks.

Peanut allergies range from minor skin and throat irritation to a whole-body anaphylaxis response which is a real medical emergency.

Peanut allergies seem to appear in the first three years of life and only 20% lose their peanut allergy. Of children under 5 years of age, there are 1% affected.
