According to a new research from the University of Rochester Medical Center in New York and Harvard Medical Center. it has been discovered how the chemotherapy drug 5-fluorouacil – 5 FU affects the central nervous system even long after the treatment ends.

The damage is done to specific kinds of cells in the central nervous system that causes unpleasant side effects with memory loss and cognitive functioning. It seems that for years some experts have been questioning whether "chemo brain" was a result of chemotherapy or the cancer itself.

According to this recent study, it seems to have been demonstrated that it is the chemo that can damage with this single drug and not only the "cocktail" mixture.
