Medical University of Graz in Austria

According to a study conducted at the Medical School in Graz, Austria with 3,300 patients who were undergoing angioplasty, colleagues collected data on Vitamin D levels. After more than seven years of follow-up, 737 patients had died, 463 of them from cardiovascular disease.

It was found that the death rate from cardiovascular disease, as well as other causes, were higher among people with the lowest levels of vitamin D. This study supports that low levels of vitamin D and vitamin D hormone are associated with mortality from coronary heart disease.

Vitamin D also plays a big part in good neuromuscular function as well as bone metabolism. This report was published in the Archives of Internal Medicine June 23.
