WARNING HEART PATIENTS

According to a recent article in the paper, Good Hands, heart patients who used common pain reliever called NSAIDs. are at a much higher risk of having a repeat heart attack or of dying than those who stay away from the over-the-counter NSAIDs.

In a recent article in the Elsevier Global Medical News, patients with a history of myocardial infarction, any length of treatment with nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, poses an unacceptable high risk for death or recurrent heart attacks. This wasbased on findings from a Danish study using hospital pharmacy registry data and published online May 9 in Circulation..

The article in Danish study stated that despite limitations of the study, namely the bservational design and the possible effects of information bias, it is still suggested that we must limit NSAID use to the absolute minimum in patients with established cardiovascular disorders.

One of the principles of medicine is “first do no harm.” In other words make sure the treatment is not worse than the original problem.
