Each day, about 2,000 U.S. workers receive some form of medical treatment because of a work-related eye injury. For injured workers, eye injuries may impact their ability to earn a living and may significantly decrease their quality of life.

But there is good news. Most eye injuries can be prevented with the use of proper protective eyewear and safety measures. There are resources and information available to help spread the message about the importance of protecting eyes in the workplace.

The National Eye Institute (NEI), part of the federal government’s National Institutes of Health, has materials to promote workplace eye safety. By educating employees about eye safety and the importance of using protective eyewear, you can help reduce eye injuries, lost work days, emergency room visits, and absenteeism, and increase safety and morale.

For a free eye safety kit and other resources you can use to prevent eye injuries and promote eye safety in the workplace, visit the NEI Publications Catalog.
