How often do we need routine physicals? How often do we need routine physicals?
Readers Digest January 2006,

According to the American Medical Association, it is a good idea for healthy people to have an annual medical checkup every year or two. If you have hypertension, high cholesterol, obesity or other ongoing health issues, it is wise for you to see your doctor as he or she recommends.

The federal guidelines have changed and it is stated that it is no longer recommended to have a routine annual physical. In a recent survey, 74% of physicians still felt that a yearly physical improved detection of early illness as well as improved the relationship between the doctor and patient.

It is recommended to take advantage of free health screenings, such as blood pressure and cholesterol. Whatever decision you make as to how often you need your checkup, remember in general, it is still a good idea for all healthy people to follow the guidelines and have that physical for early detection.
